Prof. Giuseppe Gasparre

Head of CRBA

Associate Professor at UNIBO since 2016 and Head of CRBA since 2018, with a MS in Pharmaceutical Biotechnologies at UNIBO and a PhD in human genetics at the University of Turin; licensed by the Collegio Superiore UNIBO. His research focuses on mitochondrial genetics, with particular reference to mitochondrial metabolism in solid tumors. He has been coordinator of the European project MEET - Mitochondrial European Educational Training (FP7 Marie Curie) and he is in the coordinating team and WP leader of the H2020 Marie Curie project TRANSMIT - Translational Significance of Mitochondria in Tumorigenesis. He co-authored 95 scientific publications on ISI-impacted journals and collaborates with several European and US research groups. His research is funded by the Italian Association for Cancer Research (AIRC), Fondazione Veronesi, the Italian Ministry of Health, the Italian Ministry of Education and the Worldwide Cancer Research, as well as by the EU

Technical Coordinator

Graduated in Industrial Chemistry, he always completes his training in Bologna, obtaining a PhD in Industrial Chemistry.

Acquired experience in Industrial Chemistry's Department  as Head of the management of scientific instrumentation and of  research and resources support servicea. Completed his experienceas head of safety for the laboratory of instruments and is a  member of the emergency team. He also coordinates the web communication group.

Since 2014 he has been appointed Coordinator of Research Laboratories at DIMEC - Dept. of Medical and Surgical Sciences, and since 2018 he has been appointed as Technical Coordinator of the CRBA, defining its internal organization

His role at the center,in agreement with the Director and the board, includes organizational aspects aspects of conducting the Laboratory and interfacing with staff and customers.

  • Vs Organization: participates in Board meetings and transfers the guidelines within the CRBA. Defines the annual plan of the qualitative and quantitative objectives of the Laboratory in compliance with the assigned budget and assesses the adequacy of resources; interfaces with SPP and reports the laboratory's needs to the director;
  • Vs Personnel: verifies and supervises the correct management of the Laboratory, assigns the tasks, monitors and verifies the adequacy of the Staff training and approves the annual training plan
  • Vs Clients: It takes care of the technical-scientific relationships with the client and identifies the Referent of the project in concert with the area managers, then supervising the correct conduct of research and its management within the Laboratory
  • Result monitoring: periodically verifies the achievement of the general objectives of the center and of the areas, preparing the improvement actions of the CRBA. He is responsible for relations with suppliers of external goods and services and for managing the purchases of the UNIBO budget.

Quality Management System (QMS) Manager; Communication and the Site Manager; Mass Spectrometry Laboratory -GC-MS-manager

Biologist, after experience in Clinical Chemistry and clinical trials obtained in other laboratories of the St Orsola Hospital, she has collaborated with the CRBA since the laboratory was established as head of the Gas-mass Laboratory. Obtained the Master in Science and technology of radiopharmaceuticals (II level), he collaborates with the European Institute of Oncology in Milan and with the St.Orsola Hospital Radiopharmacy; after these experiences he collaborates in the safety management and the first Laboratory Quality Certification.

She goes on in his work experience at the CRBA alongside in the field of endocrinology and lipidology by developing analytic panels in GC/MS developing many papers to his credit and actively deepens his training with continuous updating. With the new organization of the Laboratory, he supports the ideation, setting and updating of the laboratory web site alongside the analytical work and since 2019 he has been involved in quality certification according to ISO 9001-2015 standards, getting specific training about it.

Biologist,  PhD in Cellular Biology and Phisiology at the University of Bologna.

She has been collaborating with CRBA since the laboratory was established, first as a researcher and then hired by DIMEC Department as a graduate technician.

Dr. Alessandro Perrone

Dr. Alessandro Perrone

Mass Spectrometry area vice-manager.

Graduated in Industrial Chemistry, he developed skills in applied mass spectrometry for neurological sciences, therapeutic drug monitoring, clinical chemistry, and toxicology.

Hands-on experience in proteomics, metabolomics, and related sample preparation techniques.

In 2020 joins the CRBA staff, dealing with mass spectrometry laboratory management, LC-MS methods development, and data analysis.

Molecular Biology Laboratory and Cellular Biology Laboratory area Manager

Biotechnologist, PhD in Experimental and Clinical Oncology, she is  Molecular Biology Laboratory Area Manager. After obtaining her doctorate, Dr. Piazzi completed her training with a postdoctoral period at the Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas (Texas, USA) dealing with biology and chemoprevention of colorectal cancer. In 2012, she won a three-year funding as Principal Investigator for the project 'Search for novel genes responsible for familial colorectal polyposis' ("Research Program University Region 2010-2012 of the Emilia-Romagna Region - Young Researchers Call"). Dr. Piazzi has numerous publications on biology and prevention of gastrointestinal tumors, in particular of the colorectum, in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

SCAI laboratory unit Area Manager ("Single Cell Analysis Imaging"); Cellular Biology Laboratory Deputy Manager

Biljana Petrovic is the laboratory technician. She will be involved in the set-up, execution and data analysis of the experiments  that will entail the use of the CellSearch and DEPArray instruments. In 2017 she obtained PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the Virology laboratory of Prof. Campadelli-Fiume, working on the engineering of oncolytic herpes simplex viruses (HSV), redirected to tumor-specific receptors, to bring it to the translational phase. As an employee of the Nouscom company (2017-2019), he contributed to the development of personalized anticancer vaccines, in order to address directing and strengthen  the cell-mediated immune system towards neo-tumor antigens
