The winner is Dr. Sara Carli
As a research fellow in the Mitochondrial Translational Medicine group run by Dr. Caterina Garone, Dr. Carli is involved in a project to demonstrate the effectiveness of gene therapies, with CRISPR/Cas9 methodology, and pharmacological therapies, with nucleosides, on a group of mitochondrial diseases, currently fatal in the first years of life and with no therapeutic prospects.
With this important recognition, Dr Carli has been awarded a 2-year fellowship, which will enable her to proceed more rapidly with her research, thereby further raising the level of scientific excellence of her research group.
