CRBA Retreat: second edition concluded

A day full of top-quality contributions resulting from the sharing of high expertise and cutting-edge technologies

On Saturday 6 May 2023, the second Retreat of the Centre for Applied Biomedical Research - CRBA was held in the San Giovanni in Monte complex in Bologna.

More than 100 researchers attended, many of them PhD students, post-docs and young researchers, who had the opportunity to present the progress of their research projects.

The occasion was an excellent opportunity to reinforce the sense of community that characterises the CRBA, particularly at a time of transition and evolution such as the present one, in which the Centre is about to move to a new location, with a new technology park, as emphasised in the introductory speeches by the Director, Prof. Giuseppe Gasparre, and the delegate for the University's research infrastructure, Prof. Barbara Monti.

The participation of Dr. Valentina Adami (CIBIO - Trento) as keynote speaker, promoter of the Italian Network of Core Facilities of which CRBA is a partner, was fundamental and enlightening in outlining the panorama of national and international development and collaboration opportunities for research centres. Equally important was the speech by the manager of the UNIBO Research Area, Dr. Verdiana Bandini, who presented the University's strategies for research, especially in the European sphere.

The focus of the day was biomedical research, and the results that can be achieved thanks to the availability of state-of-the-art technological platforms and supply chains, combined with highly specialised technical support. Presentations ranged from the application of physics to sensors for viral infections, including those from COVID-19, to the generation of organoid models as an alternative to animal experimentation; from the applications of chemistry in photodynamic therapies in oncology, to the opportunities of using mass spectrometry in the clinical field.

A true incubator of transdisciplinarity, with this event the CRBA reminded its community of over 250 UNIBO researchers of the value of sharing and planning resources for the benefit of top-quality research that not only generates job opportunities, but also professional growth and collaborations in a multidisciplinary university where combining skills is the real added value.
