Biochemistry Facility

The laboratory studies phenotypic and biochemical features of the cells, investigating characteristics such as growth, morphology, and cell motility of the individual cell or the entire population and assessing the cellular respiration, glycolysis, and ATP production of the sample.

Analysis and Services

Images and data on proliferation, morphology, and motility can be collected in real-time on attached cells using the Livecyte 2 platform, based on quantitative phase pticography (QPI).

The laboratory is equipped with the Seahorse instrument for measuring oxygen consumption rate (OCR) and extracellular acidification rate (ECAR) on a wide range of samples, from individual mitochondria to 2D or 3D cell cultures.

The space is also furnished with the basic instrumentation for sample preparation under sterile conditions. These services are complemented by support activities for the analysis of data obtained with the Livecyte.

Instruments

  •  Livecyte 2- Phasefocus
  • Seahorse XFe96Analyzer -Agilent

We also have in equipment:

 - a Biohazard laminar flow hood

- a CO2 incubator for cell cultures

- a refrigerated benchtop centrifuge (Beckman GS15-R)

- a thermostatically controlled water bath

- upright and inverted microscopes

- a laboratory stove
