Coastal resilience is at the centre of reflections on how to deal with a changing climate for a large portion of the world population. From the urgency to stimulate action and catalyze forces to advance research on this topic, the Decade Collaborative Centre for Coastal Resilience was born, in the framework of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.

Join this webinar to learn more about the Centre and its activities, to dive into the Ocean Decade and to hear the experience of the projects working to understand our coasts better.

Community engagement and empowerment are crucial elements for the success of any project. They play a vital role in informing communities about the challenges that impact their homes and empowering them to take action.

SeaPaCS and Save the Waves represent two distinct approaches to coastal community engagement. SeaPaCS is a European-funded project that focuses on data collection and actively involves local communities in the process. On the other hand, Save the Waves is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of surfing spots. They have developed the 'Save the Waves App' which places the monitoring process directly into the hands of users, thereby promoting community involvement.

Speakers:

  • Chiara Certomà (University of Turin), Federico Fornaro (Italian Naval League) – SeaPaCS

  • Diego Sancho (Save the Waves Coalition) – Save the Waves App

3. Coastal Connections: Interdisciplinary Methodologies for Resilient Shores

The AXA Research Fund has awarded 8 fellowships to researchers worldwide, providing support for research projects focused on coastal and community resilience. These projects take an interdisciplinary approach and offer valuable perspectives on coastal resilience from physical, economic, and social standpoints.

In this webinar, we will invite two of the fellows to present their research and the potential it holds for understanding and enhancing coastal and community resilience. By analysing two different scientific approaches to the topic of coastal resilience, the webinar will dive into the added value of different perspectives and methodologies to understand coastal environments.
