The UN Ocean Decade

Transformative ocean science solutions for sustainable development, connecting people and our ocean.

The 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly in December, 2017 proclaimed the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development 2021-2030. It started from the need to create a global network of initiatives and projects to advance ocean science and generate new resources and capacity to make our oceans healthier, more resilient and more sustainable.

During the Ocean Decade, collaborators will produce the data, information, and knowledge required to enhance science-based policies and strengthen the connections between science and policy on a global, regional, national, and even local scale. This will be achieved by coordinating research, investments, and initiatives around 10 challenges.

The DCC-CR contributes to this global endeavour by coordinating actions around Challenge 6: Increase Community Resilience to Ocean Hazards. We will support endorsed and new actions to effectively contribute to making coastal environment ready for the challenges posed by climate change.
