INTERNATIONAL

The Centre for Studies on Gender and Education (CSGE) conducts interdisciplinary research on gender and education, with a particular focus on the social dynamics involved in educational processes and socialization, viewed through the lens of gender studies. The Centre was established through collaboration among professors, scholars, and researchers from various academic disciplines within the Department, including Pedagogy, Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology, History, Philosophy, and the Physical and Natural Sciences.

The primary goal of the CSGE is to advance research on education and gender identity. To this end, it engages with a wide range of audiences—university students, schools, cultural institutions, local authorities, and others—on topics related to gender and education. The Centre brings together and promotes diverse research approaches, concentrating on key gender-related issues such as:

  • The education of femininity and masculinity (including related constraints, stereotypes, and prejudices) in local, national, and international contexts
  • Best practices in gender relations within educational settings
  • Gender socialization in the context of migration
  • Sexual discrimination and inequalities
  • Social and media representations of gender differences
  • Gender issues across educational, social, and cultural environments

In addition, the CSGE fosters international research networks, promotes the dissemination of knowledge on gender and education, and supports the funding of further studies at both local and national levels.

WITEC

CSGE is member of WiTEC - the European Association for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology (SET)

Founded in 1988, WiTEC is a European network aimed at promoting women's participation in scientific, engineering, and technological fields.

The main objectives of the association are:

  • to increase the number of girls engaging in scientific and technical studies and to support them in their careers;
  • to develop women's technical and entrepreneurial skills through training courses and targeted projects;
  • to enhance the exchange of information and cooperation opportunities for women working in scientific and technical areas;
  • to promote and support research in traditionally male-dominated fields;
  • to support initiatives aimed at promoting Gender Mainstreaming policies.

The WiTEC project is coordinated by Elena Luppi.
Updates on WiTEC activities at the University of Bologna (thanks also to the involvement of the Engineering department, particularly Alessandra Bonoli) and at the international level are available on the project website: http://www.witeceu.com
