ALDO DI VIRGILIO

Aldo Di Virgilio began his academic career as a researcher at the University of Calabria, where he worked from 1992 to 1999. In 1999 he joined the University of Bologna as Associate Professor, teaching Political Science, Public Administration, Comparative Politics, and the Italian Political System until 2015.

His research addressed key themes in political science: electoral competition, electoral systems, parties and party systems, voter participation, the formation of pre-electoral coalitions, and, more recently, the study of parliamentary parties and candidate selection. His contributions were crucial to understanding the transformations of the Italian political system.

A rigorous and passionate scholar, Aldo Di Virgilio combined methodological expertise with analytical sensitivity. As a teacher, he stood out for his attention to students, who repaid him with deep esteem and affection.

His untimely passing, at the age of 56, left a profound void in the academic community and among all who knew him. His intellectual and human legacy continues to live on in Italian political science.
