  • Date: 21 APRIL 2026  from 9:00 to 17:00

  • Type: Conference

The first day of the CoastPredict & GlobalCoast Network Assemblies, co-organised with the Decade Collaborative Centre for Coastal Resilience (DCC-CR), took place on 21 April 2026 in Mérida, Mexico, bringing together an international community of scientists, practitioners, and institutional representatives.

The programme opened with high-level contributions addressing the role of CoastPredict and the DCC-CR within the framework of the UN Ocean Decade. Discussions emphasised their contribution to strengthening coastal prediction systems, improving coordination across initiatives, and supporting global collaboration.

The morning sessions continued with updates from core projects, followed by a series of lightning talks presenting ongoing work on coastal monitoring, ecosystem resilience, marine spatial planning, and ocean observing systems. These contributions provided a snapshot of current efforts and highlighted the diversity of approaches being developed across regions and disciplines.

In the afternoon, the focus shifted towards regional cooperation and operational applications. Discussions highlighted the importance of early warning systems and integrated approaches to managing coastal risks, with particular attention to the Tropical Americas and Caribbean region.

The level of participation and the range of perspectives shared throughout the day marked a strong and productive start to the Assemblies, reinforcing a common commitment to advancing science-based solutions for coastal resilience.
