Professor Nadia Pinardi, Director of the Decade Collaborative Centre for Coastal Resilience (DCC-CR) at the University of Bologna, is serving as one of the lecturers at the All-Atlantic Summer School 2025, held in a hybrid format at INPO, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 8 to 12 September 2025.
Overview of the Summer School
The Summer School is organized under the framework of the All-Atlantic Ocean Research and Innovation Alliance (AAORIA) and supported by the OKEANO Coordination & Support Action. It represents a capacity-building initiative designed to strengthen scientific expertise and collaboration across the Atlantic Ocean community.
Programme Content
The 2025 edition, titled “Numerical modelling and data analysis fundamentals: application on coastal resilience studies,” provides a 40-hour, five-day programme delivered in English. The curriculum addresses:
The programme also includes interactive lectures by international experts, group discussions, and a technical visit to laboratories at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ)
Participants
The Summer School has attracted a wide group of early career scientists and professionals in ocean sciences, representing diverse academic, institutional, and professional backgrounds. The initiative highlights the importance of inclusive participation, with a strong representation of women and underrepresented groups in the field.
Significance
By contributing as lecturer, Professor Pinardi reinforces the DCC-CR’s mission to advance knowledge exchange and capacity building on coastal resilience within the global framework of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021–2030). Her participation links the Centre’s strategic objectives with the training of a new generation of ocean professionals across the Atlantic basin.
