The Decade Collaborative Center for Coastal Resilience (DCC-CR) opened its participation at ECOMONDO 2024 with a compelling series of discussions on Governance and Resource Management for Coastal Resilience. Hosted at Hall B8, Stand 213-314, today’s program gathered a diverse audience, including policymakers, industry experts, and academics, for an in-depth exploration of policies and strategies that support the systematic application of resources to prevent, maintain, and enhance resilience in coastal areas.

The day's talks emphasized the importance of community consensus and awareness in driving effective coastal resilience efforts. These elements empower local leaders and shape governance that aligns with both national and international sustainability goals. Discussions also covered the role of horizontal compliance pressures among nations, which foster mutual accountability and adherence to shared environmental targets.

A highlight of the day was our interaction with student groups, providing an invaluable opportunity to gauge young citizens' perspectives on coastal resilience. Engaging with these future stakeholders underscores the importance of public outreach and education as key elements in long-term resilience planning. Building these connections with young people not only raises awareness but also prepares the next generation to advocate for sustainable coastal management.

Tomorrow, the program will delve into Science in Support of Coastal Resilience, with expert-led talks and roundtables focusing on the latest research and technological innovations for protecting coastal communities. As with today, all sessions will be available to join online.
