We are pleased to announce that abstract submission for the European Geosciences Union General Assembly 2026 (EGU26) is now open. The event will take place in Vienna, 3 – 8 May 2026.
The DCC-CR and the organisations of its Partner Alliance Network invite the scientific community to contribute to two sessions within the Ocean Sciences (OS) programme group, organised in collaboration with international partners. These sessions reflect our shared commitment to advancing ocean and coastal research under the framework of the UN Ocean Decade.
Session OS2.5 – Advances in Understanding the Southern European Seas (Mediterranean, Marmara and Black Sea): A Celebration of the Scientific Work of Prof. Emin Ozsoy
Convener: Nadia Pinardi
Co-conveners: Murat Gunduz, Adil Sözer, Vanessa Cardin, Marilaure Grégoire
This session focuses on coastal resilience in the context of global change, addressing multi-scale dynamics and impacts in coastal systems. Topics include the development of predictive frameworks for coastal risks, adaptation and management strategies, and multi-hazard approaches integrating hydrodynamics, morphodynamics, and ecosystem responses. Presentations combining observations, modelling, and decision-support tools are particularly welcome, as well as case studies demonstrating how science-based solutions can strengthen coastal adaptation and policy development.
Session OS2.4 – The Global Coastal Ocean: multi-hazard Early Warning System for Coastal Resilience
Convener: Giovanni Coppini
Co-conveners: Joanna Staneva, Agustín Sánchez-Arcilla, Vijaya Sunanda, Ghada El Serafy
This session addresses the design and coordination of ocean observation systems in support of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. It welcomes contributions on multi-platform observation networks, data interoperability, digital twins, and co-design processes involving scientific, technological, and societal stakeholders. The session also encourages examples of operational systems, long-term observing initiatives, and community-based observation approaches that enhance data access, quality, and usability across scales.
If you are interested in these topics, you are kindly invited to submit your abstract through the official EGU portal:
EGU26 – Abstract submission
The deadline for the abstract submission is Thursday, 15 January 2026, 13:00 CET.
We look forward to your contributions and to meeting you in Vienna at EGU26.
