An interdisciplinary dialogue on the Mediterranean and Black Seas as testing grounds for observation, modelling, and Digital Twins for coastal resilience.
Date:
Type: Conference
The Decade Collaborative Centre for Coastal Resilience is co-organising a Townhall Meeting at the EGU General Assembly 2026, which will take place from 3 to 8 May 2026 in Vienna.
The Townhall, entitled Testing Grounds for Innovation in Ocean Science: The Mediterranean and Black Seas, will provide an interdisciplinary forum to reflect on the historical evolution and future perspectives of oceanographic research in these two semi-enclosed basins. The session is jointly developed by experts from the University of Bologna, DCC-CR, the UN Ocean Decade programme CoastPredict, the University of Liège and the Euro-Mediterranean Center for Climate Change.
The discussion will address how advances in observation, modelling and digital technologies - culminating in operational oceanographic services and Digital Twins for coastal resilience - have been shaped by earlier scientific approaches, and how historical and interdisciplinary perspectives can inform future research strategies. Invited keynote speakers include Prof. Emil Stanev and Prof. Nadia Pinardi, followed by a moderated and interactive debate .
The Townhall is open to oceanographers, marine scientists, early-career researchers and all EGU participants interested in interdisciplinary dialogue within Ocean Science.
