From the dress to the city. Spaces for fashion projects
Research Seminar
12nd-13rd May 2022
Scientific curators: Lucia Miodini and Ines Tolic
In Italy after World War II, concurrent with the rise of ready-to-wear apparel and the emergence of an industrial garment production system, there was an intensification of the overlap between fashion and design culture. Since then, fashion has established itself as a cultural, creative and highly competitive industry, pushing far beyond the boundaries of the dress. Indeed, today fashion decisively influences the spaces we live in, becoming a pervasive force capable of shaping the face of our cities.
With this in mind, CSAC and CFC organised a seminar with the aim of investigating fashion through its spatial dimension: archives, shops, museums, landscapes and cities. Characterised by an interdisciplinary approach that is typical of fashion studies, the workshop will provide an opportunity to reflect on some of the most unstable equilibria of the beginning of the century and on the changing forces that today govern the relationship between culture and the market, between tradition and globalisation, between history and the future.
