ADVANCED IMAGING TECHNOLOGIES FOR THE STUDY OF WORKS OF ART

Bilateral Project Italia-Slovenia, SI18MO03 (2019 – 2022)

The present proposal is aimed at developing advanced non-invasive hyperspectral methods to monitor and preserve cultural heritage. In particular, a custom modular bushbroom VNIR (visible-near infrared) hyperspectral imaging (HSI) instrument, will be tested as a tool for monitoring cultural heritage. This new instrumentation has been developed by the Slovenian group and is characterized by a higher spectral and spatial resolution than most of the systems commercially available. Moreover, a portable FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared) instrument (Italian group) will be adapted to perform 2D mapping in-situ. To our knowledge wiskbroom FTIR HSI technology is not commercially available, and just few applications are reported in literature using customized instrumentations. The aim of this project is to realize a low-cost set up, exploiting the competences of the Slovenian group both in term of hardware and software.

BIODOT

Biobased and biodegradable Carbon Dot-Polymeric Nanofibrous Membranes for Solar-Assisted Water Remediation and Oil Spill Cleanup

B-PLAS DEMO

Industrial demonstration of sludge to bioplastic pathway

Funded by EIT Cimate KIC (2018-2021)
The project aims to realize a fully automated plant that allows the conversion of food waste, waste sludge and other organic residues into Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA). PHA is a bio‐based and bio‐degradable plastic, suitable for packaging, disposable items, medical application and 3D printing.

CASCADE

CIRSA is taking part to the INTERREG Project Italia-Croatia “CoAStal and marine waters integrated monitoring systems for ecosystems proteCtion AnD management” (CASCADE) with a partnership of 10 Italian, 6 Croatian partners and 4 associated partners; the project wants to set up an efficient and shared monitoring and modeling of coastal and marine resources in the two countries of the region, in a coherent and comparable framework.

CHANCES - MANAGEMENT OF BIG DATA IN CULTURAL HERITAGE: A DYNAMIC SHARED SOLUTION

UNA EUROPA Seed Funding, GA number: SF2008 (2020-2022)

The project is aimed at creating a new integrated European research team for the sustainable management of big data in Cultural Heritage. Research activities will be aimed at the development of innovative tools for the management and sharing of data and dissemination of results obtained from diagnostic campaigns, and at identifying joint research topics to be developed in the framework of future Initial Training Network (ITN) or European Research Council (ERC) funding calls within the theme of "Big Data and Cultural Heritage".

CROSS-LIFE

Crotonic Acid from Sewage Sludge

Funded by the LIFE Programme (2022-2026), grant agreement N° 101074164
The project aims at 1) demonstrating the possibility of reducing the amount of sludge currently produced by industries/WWT companies, giving significant benefits in terms of economic and environmental costs; 2) producing bio-based chemicals starting from WWTS, using a circular economy approach to introduce sludge as a new feedstock into the bio-based chemical/polymer market.

FLAG Bevano

CIRSA obtained funding from the Po FEAMP 2014/2020 Costa dell'Emilia-Romagna FLAG, for the "Characterization of the river mouth of the Bevano river and identification of conservation and enhancement strategies for nursery areas by species protected and of commercial interest ". The area of interest includes the mouth of the Bevano river, a SIC / ZPS area (IT4070009) up to 300 m from the coast line.

GoGREEN

Green Strategies to Conserve the Past and Preserve the Future of Cultural Heritage

HORIZON-RIA, GA number: EP2022/071159 (2022 – 2025)
GoGreen promotes preventive and remedial conservation practices based on green principles to spearhead the green revolution within conservation. Specifically, GoGreen will: (1) develop new damage functions that allow more flexible environmental control in collections, thus improving energy efficiency; (2) generate innovative nature-inspired, bio-based and historical conservation treatment-inspired methods for remedial conservation, including new cleaning solutions for paintings and metals, all using green solvents, bio-inspired reagents, green delivery systems; and stabilization methods for metal and glass; (3) assess our new materials and methods using cutting-edge analytical techniques and benchmark methods.

HELIX: INVESTIGATING METAL BIOREMEDIATION FOR THE PRESERVATION OF HISTORICAL METAL ARTWORKS

Swiss National Science Foundation, No. 205121_188755 (2020 – 2024)

The HELIX project aims to provide novel bio-based organogels for the eco-friendly cleaning of altered metallic artworks. In particular, the main purposes are the conversion of undesirable corrosion compounds into protective and aesthetically acceptable ones, and the removal of degraded coatings applied on metals.

IPERION HS

Integrating Platforms for the European Research Infrastructure ON Heritage Science

Project type: H2020; GA number: 871034 (2020-2023)
