Increasing coastal ecosystem resilience to climate change
The ACTION project focuses on promoting resilient behaviors in coastal areas of Italy and Croatia affected by climate change, such as sea level rise and saline intrusion. It aims to protect natural and cultural heritage, including parks and Natura 2000 sites, by analysing risks and enhancing ecosystem services through nature-based solutions.
The project will follow an ecosystem-based management approach, assessing threats and identifying effective methods for resilience in four pilot areas. Key outputs include comprehensive analyses of these areas, multimedia representations of climate change impacts, and a cross-border awareness campaign targeting stakeholders like the public, SMEs, and policymakers.
Additionally, the project will facilitate exchanges between students and teachers and engage local stakeholders through events and capacity-building activities. The ultimate goal is to develop and transfer a Joint Action Plan to enhance resilience and promote sustainable practices across the region, leveraging cooperative efforts for better outcomes. Innovative aspects include coordinated knowledge sharing among diverse stakeholders and a large-scale awareness campaign to strengthen cultural and environmental resilience.
