Joint labs

ARCES currently hosts two joint LABS with two major industries (STMicroelectronics and Rete Ferroviaria Italiana) for high impact research and innovation in the circuits and systems domains. Both joint labs are medium term implementations of framework agreements at corporate level, they host researchers from both parties and share spaces and resources managed by ARCES and available at its Pepoli Lab.

STMicroelectronics

A creator and maker of semiconductor technologies, STMicroelectronics is an independent device manufacturer with 11 main manufacturing sites, revenues of $9.56B in 2019, 46,000 employees worldwide (7,800 in R&D) over 80 sales & marketing offices serving over 100,000 customers across the globe. ST is a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and a member of the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA). ST has a wide portfolio of products ranging from smart mobility, to power and energy, Internet of Thing and 5G. STMicroelectronics has a strong presence in the Automotive, industrial, personal electronics, communication equipment, computer and peripherals, smart sensors and develops a wide range of technologies such as Smart power BCD, MEMs, FD-SOI CMOS, , Discrete, Power MOSFET, IGBT, Silicon Carbide, Gallium Nitride, Analog & RF, eNVM, PCM, Imaging sensors, Packaging technologies and much more.

The ARCES-ST Laboratory was established in 2001, following an early agreement between the University of Bologna and STMicroelectronics dated 1998, with the mission to find innovative solutions to complex problems based on advanced electronic technologies, to devise new smart systems to improve the way we live and to foster the application of research results through the cooperation with industrial partners. The long-date collaboration resulted in more than 45 patent applications and numerous scientific publications and led to the conjunct involvement in several European Projects related to research topics. Research activities are carried out in two sites: Pepoli (Bologna) and Cesena Campus.
