ARCES is an infrastructure for interdisciplinary research in the areas of electronic device modeling, nanosystems, microsystems and ICT.

ARCES is mainly funded by competitive research schemas, by research contracts implementing framework agreements at corporate level and by international donations.

The research center hosts joined design labs and cooperates with industries, ranging from start ups to leader semiconductor manufacturers worldwide.

The center premises are located in Bologna (three sites) and Cesena, hosting approximately 70 researchers and appropriate staff.

ARCES originates from a call of the Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) for «Excellence Centers» won by the University of Bologna in the area of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

ARCES was stabilized as Inter-Department Research Center of the University of Bologna in 2014.

It is participated by four large Departments:

• Computer Science and Engineering (DISI)
• Civil, Chemical, Environmental, and Materials Engineering (DICAM)
• Electrical, Electronic, and Information Engineering «Guglielmo Marconi» (DEI)
• Mathematics (MAT)
