The 9th edition of the Copernicus Ocean State Report (OSR) has been published, providing insights into changes and variations in the oceans over recent decades, with a focus on extreme events in 2023 and 2024.
This year’s report highlights the deep connections between ocean changes and their impacts on marine ecosystems, human society, culture, and the economy.
The OSR, a scientific collaboration of over 100 experts from Europe and around the world, compiled by the Copernicus Marine Service, uses observation-based data (remote sensing, in situ) and ocean reanalysis to provide a comprehensive four-dimensional (latitude, longitude, depth, and time) analysis of the Blue, Green, and White Ocean.
The report serves as a reference for the scientific community, offering a unique ocean monitoring dashboard. The Summary presents key findings in a clear format for policymakers, decision-makers, and citizens interested in the state of the oceans.
