Professor Nadia Pinardi, DCC-CR Director and full professor at the University of Bologna, has been awarded the 2025 Prince Albert I Medal by the International Association for the Physical Sciences of the Oceans (IAPSO). This prestigious accolade recognizes her significant contributions to the field of physical oceanography.
The Prince Albert I Medal, established in 2001 by Prince Rainier III of Monaco in collaboration with IAPSO, is conferred biennially to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the physical sciences of the oceans. Professor Pinardi's recognition underscores her pioneering work in operational oceanography, particularly her efforts in developing ocean forecasting systems in the Mediterranean Sea.
Her research has been instrumental in advancing our understanding of ocean dynamics and improving predictive capabilities for marine environments. In addition to the Prince Albert I Medal, Professor Pinardi's illustrious career has been recognized with several other honors, including the Fridtjof Nansen Medal from the European Geosciences Union in 2007 and the Roger Revelle Medal from UNESCO in 2008.
The medal will be formally presented at the IUGG General Assembly, scheduled to take place from July 20 to 25, 2025, in Busan, Republic of Korea. This event brings together leading scientists from around the world to discuss advancements in the geophysical sciences, providing a fitting platform to honor Professor Pinardi's achievements.
