The Decade Collaborative Centre for Coastal Resilience, in collaboration with the CMCC Foundation and the University of Bologna, is pleased to launch the first Global Expert Survey on Ocean Coastal Governance for Resilience: A Global Perspective.

The survey will be open from 23 March to 23 April and will be circulated to a selected group of experts from the IOC Ocean Expert Database.

This initiative aims to build a unique global dataset capturing expert perceptions on the quality and effectiveness of coastal governance systems. The survey focuses on how scientific communities assess governance processes, institutional performance, and the interaction between science and decision-making across different contexts.

Understanding these dimensions is essential to shed light on the political and institutional dynamics that shape coastal adaptation strategies. By gathering insights from experts worldwide, the initiative seeks to contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of how governance frameworks support — or hinder — resilience-building efforts.

The results will help identify gaps between scientific evidence and policy action, while promoting more collaborative governance approaches that integrate local, national, and international levels. Strengthening this science–policy interface is key to advancing sustainable and resilient coastal development.
