The second day of DCC-CR events in Lecce focused on the CoastPredict General Assembly, uniting experts and institutions to discuss governance, partnerships, and innovative solutions for coastal resilience. This Assembly marked a key milestone, setting the foundation for future collaboration under the GlobalCoast initiative.

Key addresses from Giulio Boccaletti, Simona Masina (CMCC Foundation), and Nadia Pinardi (CoastPredict Chair and DCC-CR Director) provided updates on CoastPredict and DCC-CR activities. Emma Heslop (GOOS-IOC UNESCO) and Abe Woo (ECOPs Group) highlighted global ocean observing efforts and the role of early-career ocean professionals.

Discussions covered core CoastPredict projects—FLAME, CORIS, Predict-on-Time, and Restore our Coasts—tackling challenges like climate predictions, real-time forecasting, and coastal restoration. New UN Decade-endorsed projects were also presented, including SCOOPp, FOCCUS, and CoastSnap, emphasizing advances in ocean monitoring and community engagement.

The afternoon introduced CoastPredict’s new governance structure, presented by Villy Kourafalou (University of Miami), and reinforced key partnerships like the GlobalCoast Cloud collaboration with EGI. The day concluded with strategic planning sessions on project integration and best practices, led by Giovanni Coppini (CMCC Foundation) and Jay Pearlman (FourBridges).

Stay tuned for more updates from Lecce as discussions continue to advance coastal resilience science.
