The CMCC Foresight observatory on Climate Policies and Future has published an article titled "CoastPredict: Coastal Science at the Heart of Global Transformation," which highlights the importance of coastal systems in the face of climate change.
As emphasized by Professor Nadia Pinardi, Director of DCC-CR, ocean dynamics and the interaction with coastlines are critical in understanding climate impacts, such as rising sea levels and intensified storms. The article introduces CoastPredict, a program within the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, aimed at integrating real-time data with predictive models for better management of coastal risks. The initiative seeks to provide actionable solutions, particularly for coastal communities, by improving access to critical data.
The article also discusses the role of nature-based solutions, such as seagrass meadows, in reducing coastal hazards, as well as the importance of expanding the digital twin technology for better coastal management.
