Abstract
My presentation consists of two parts. The first aims to problematize one of the theories available in semiotics for addressing stereotypes, namely enunciative praxis. It will be contrasted with the theory of enregisterment, developed in American linguistic anthropology and inspired, among other sources, by the semiotics of C. S. Peirce. The second part will examine visual stereotypes produced by multimodal generative AI in comparison with historical styles, using both a semiotic method and a statistical method based on an image evaluation grid.
