MUSEICON – Project for the visual communication system for the Museum System of University of Bologna

research; third mission

This communication design project aimed at offering a novel visual communication system that improves the visitor experience at the venues of the Bologna University museums. With a specific focus on the Palazzo Poggi museum, the project has begun with a critical assessment of three elements: 1) the main characteristics of the cultural heritage offered in the museum; 2) the characteristics of the different types of visitors; 3) the communication best practices implemented by other scientific museums at an European level.
The outcome of the project consists in a communication system that will improve the museum's accessibility and navigability, by suggesting pointing consumers towards the main experiential routes and by redesigning appropriate communication tools, such as captions, room sheets, totems. Dr. Stefano Ascari has been the research assistant behind fieldwork and the communication design phase.
