Automation, robotics and mechatronics Unit (UO1)

The objectives of the laboratory concern the solution of complex integration problems between information engineering (control engineering, electronics, computer engineering, telecommunications) and industrial engineering (mechanical and electrical engineering) for the methodological study and prototyping of new products and production systems. More specifically, the laboratory aims to:

  • Develop data acquisition, processing, and control systems based on distributed architectures and multi-core systems, using innovative control and supervision paradigms that enable high modularity, verifiability, reusability, and composability of HW/SW systems used in industrial automation.

  • Develop mechatronic and robotic systems, with particular focus on human-assistive technologies (e.g., rehabilitation systems and assistive devices for people with disabilities) and autonomous systems (e.g., robotic Unmanned Air Vehicles and mobile robots for industrial and civil applications).

  • Develop electromechanical energy conversion systems for traction applications and for energy generation from renewable sources, with the goal of achieving high efficiency and versatility.

The main industrial sectors addressed, though not exclusively and in line with the characteristics of the regional industrial ecosystem, are:
