Projects

SINERGIE Project, POR FESR 2014–2020 Emilia-Romagna Region – CIRI MAM (UO 1 – Automation, Robotics and Mechatronics)

Within the SINERGIE project, new integrated hardware/software solutions were developed for high-dynamic motion handling and power transmission management in advanced automatic machines. In particular:
-Platform-independent and machine-independent software tools for sequence management and motion control.
-Advanced design tools for minimum-stress trajectory planning and for the selection of electric drives, integrated with key components of the kinematic chain.
-Wireless devices for signal and power measurement and transmission.
-Dual-fed electric machines for rotary table motion with contactless power transmission.

CARIM PROJECT, H2020 - CIRI MAM (UO 3 - Advanced Materials for Design and Photonic Applications)

The objective of the CARBON RIM PROJECT (CARIM) was the development, homologation, and commercialization of a composite wheel rim manufactured through a high-volume automated production process (HP-RTM).
Concurrent design, together with automated carbon fabric impregnation technology, enabled the development of a wheel rim that achieves a weight reduction of 6 kilograms per wheel compared to equivalent forged aluminum rims. This weight reduction significantly improves steering agility due to lower rotational inertia and allows unmatched suspension tuning thanks to the reduced unsprung mass.

The production of wheels through an automated preforming process combined with HP-RTM infusion technology ensures short cycle times and lower costs, enabling the transition to mass production and making CARIM wheels competitive with current cast and forged aluminum wheels.

Development of a New Ultra-High-Performance Positive Displacement Pump Technology for Automatic and Highly Flexible Hydraulic Systems, POR FESR 2014–2020 Emilia-Romagna Region – CIRI MAM (UO 5 – Virtual Prototyping and Experimental Modeling of Mechanical Systems)

The research project was carried out in collaboration with Marzocchi Pompe S.p.A. (Casalecchio di Reno, Bologna, Italy) within the framework of a Regional ERDF (POR-FESR) funding program.
The project focused on the development of external gear positive displacement pumps featuring a non-conventional helical tooth profile, without encapsulation, with a reduced number of teeth (z = 4–7), and employing multilayer coatings on the external housing based on organic resins.
The pumps are characterized by high displacement, smooth operation (no pressure peaks), absence of vibrations, and very low noise levels.

ECOPACKLAB Project, POR FESR 2014–2020 Emilia-Romagna Region – CIRI MAM (UO 6 – Chemistry and Toxicology of Materials)

The ECOPACKLAB project, funded under the European Regional Development Fund (POR FESR 2014–2020) of the Emilia-Romagna Region, achieved the following objectives:
-Establishment of a “network-based” pilot laboratory for the study and production of new active and eco-sustainable packaging solutions, with pre-industrial validation.
-Development of new flexible active packaging for the food sector.
-Production of new multilayer films bonded using advanced cold plasma treatment technologies as an alternative to synthetic adhesives.
-Improvement of logistics efficiency through the reduction of costs and environmental impact of the developed packaging solutions.

HEATBETA Project, PR FESR 2021–2027, Action 1.1.2 – 2

The project has a dual objective: to validate the use of the Direct Energy Deposition (DED) process for manufacturing components made from high-entropy alloys, and to leverage this know-how for the production of innovative turbine blades for aerospace applications. These components must meet stringent high-temperature resistance requirements while ensuring significant engine weight reduction.

The project is funded by the European Funds of the Emilia-Romagna Region under PR FESR 2021–2027, Action 1.1.2 – 2 – Grants for research laboratories accredited by the Emilia-Romagna Region – “Call for Strategic Industrial Research Projects Addressing the Priority Areas of the Smart Specialisation Strategy” (Regional Government Resolution No. 2097 of 28/11/2022).

ALERT Project, PR FESR 2021–2027, Action 1.1.2 – 2

Aluminum alloys enable significant weight reduction in numerous critical mechanical components. However, fatigue and fretting-induced surface fatigue phenomena represent a limitation to the reliability and performance of these alloys.

Within this context, the ALERT project was developed, focusing on aeronautical application case studies with the aim of extending the results to structures in the space sector.

Partners: DTM Srl, InterMech (UNIMORE), CIRI MAM (UNIBO), In4 (UNIFE).

  • ECCENTRIC Landing page

The new project landing page is now available, designed to foster collaboration among SMEs, research centres, start-ups, innovators, and technology partners.
The platform allows users to explore collaboration requests submitted by participating companies and to propose innovative solutions, scientific or technological expertise, and potential joint development pathways.

ECCENTRIC aims to build a cross-border network between Italy and Croatia, fostering dialogue between industry, research, and innovation. The project supports companies in identifying concrete collaboration opportunities, defining project ideas, and developing solutions focused on sustainability, circularity, and competitive growth.

A distinctive feature of the initiative is the integration of Artificial Intelligence-based tools, designed to support SMEs in assessing their potential, preparing for funding opportunities, and identifying initiatives aligned with their innovation goals.

The landing page thus represents an operational space to activate connections, propose solutions, and contribute to the growth of a more innovative, sustainable, and collaborative Adriatic ecosystem.
