Bio

Guy Marechal, formerly with Philips Professional Systems (Brussels), was involved with and coordinator on many domains of the “Research & Development Laboratories” of Philips Electronics, in particular on Nuclear Physics; High Reliable Systems; Cryptography; Professional Audio Applications; Enterprise Modelling.

After retiring he created a one-person consulting company called PROSIP. He is senior adviser for UNESCO, the European Union, the British Library, the Norwegian Institute for Recorded Sound, the ‘Communauté française de Belgique’ and MEMNON, Belgavox. He is member of the Technical Committee of the International Association of Sound and Audio-Visual archives (IASA), member of the IASA-T&E [Training & Education] Committee and Convener of the IASA-OK [Organizing Knowledge] taskforce.

Currently, for the Non Profit Association TITAN and for the UNESCO, he is the System Architect of the AXIS-Conceptual Semantic Reference Model [AXIS-CSRM]. He is one of the two leaders of the collaboration of the IASA and TITAN with the UNESCO-MoW [Memory of the World] program in the education & training and in the conceptual and contextual modelling.

Abstract

The seminar will first introduce the general problematic of the modelling, with focus on the contexts applicable to the targets of the models. The contextual modelling is fundamental in particular for the authoring, the registration and the representation of the “Reality” and of the “Documentary”. Modelling covers identification, interoperability, functional modelling, data modelling, behavioral, security, interchanges and the configuration models which cover the management of the modelling.

In the context of the UNESCO’s Memory of the World programme, the npo TITAN and the IASA (International Association of Sound and Audiovisual archives) have joined efforts to elaborate a powerful and flexible way of modelling “Documentary Heritage”.

The result is a document and a technical frame called AXIS-CSRM, Autonomous eXchange packages for Interoperable Systems - Conceptual Semantic Reference Model. AXIS-CSRM proposes a conceptual semantic modelisation for the presentation, the management and the exchange of Documentary Contents between technical and human Entities in order of ensuring the Interoperability of these Entities (temporal, systemic, historical and cultural).
