This seminar series brings together experts in the areas of corpus linguistics, discourse analysis and semiotics and aims at exploring cross-cultural communication and multilingualism from a variety of angles and through a variety of discourse domains and text types. The discussion will range from academic discourse to online conversation, from political discourse to media discourse and will consider both textual and multimodal aspects. The talks will address issues such as: linguistic and cultural diversity within specialized registers, discourse organization and strategies across languages, multilingual policies and language ideologies, representation of newsworthy events across cultures, and variation in cultural perceptions and practices.
