The Interuniversitary Centre for Studies on Late Antique Housing in the Mediterranean (CISEM) aims at managing research and didactic activities concerning Late Antique housing, by promoting cultural exchanges amongst institutional members and by promoting interdisciplinary cooperation via national and international partnerships. Today are parts of CISEM: University of Bologna (its administrative headquarters), University of Padua, University of Foggia and CNR-Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche.

The CISEM  was founded in 2009 by the Department of History, Archaeology and Anthropology of the "Sapienza" University in Rome, gathering the "Sapienza" University in Rome, the University of Bologna, the University of Enna, the University of Foggia and the University of Padua, in order to manage common actions concerning research and didactic activities in this peculiar field of studies.

In recent years, thanks to new excavations and new researches led on Late Antique and Early Medieval housing in various Mediterranean regions, all fields of antiquity studies have been urged to give their contribution in terms of knowledge and best pratices to the fostering of research methodologies and of museum display and dissemination of the historical and archaeological heritage.

The CISEM aims at deepening, integrating and developing the knowledge in the fied of Late Antique housing and, in addition to that, to deal with the enhancement and fruition of archaeological sites and monuments in an interdisciplinary perspective, taking advantage of the contribution of new techonologies applied to Cultural Heritage studies.

The Centre will:

 1. promote, coordinate and lead research activities in the field of Late Antique archaeology; fostering the exchanges between Research Institutes and Departments of the Members;

2. aim at establishing an international network of collaboration with other Research bodies, both publich and private, that are interested in developing studies in Late-Antique housing and Late-Antique archaeology;

3. support scientific dissemination initiatives and interdisciplinary cooperation, both at a national and international level;

3. organise congresses, conferences, seminars and any other occasion of scientific communication in an interdisciplinary perspective, in order to promote and disseminate the Centre's actions and results.
