Antonio Castillo Gómez, Leggere nella Spagna moderna. Erudizione, religiosità e svago, translated by Luisa Castelli, Bologna, Pàtron, 2013.

Antonio Castillo Gómez (Universidad de Alcalá) is one of the greatest historians of written culture and reading in the modern age. The volume, focused on reading practices in 16th and 17th century Spain, interrogates numerous sources (archives of the Inquisition, literary and doctrinal texts) allowing the Italian reader to delve into a complex social, religious and cultural panorama, but above all in the circular mechanism consisting of the multiple appropriations of the written word, ranging from solitary reading, to ars excerpendi, up to oral and collective transmission.

Introduced by: Gabriella Zarri (University of Florence) and Angela De Benedictis (University of Bologna)

Coordination: Maurizio Fabbri (University of Bologna)

The Author and Director of the "Lyceum" series, Maria Gioia Tavoni (University of Bologna) will speak.
