The ancient Abbey Library holds precious manuscripts, including autographs, and illuminated manuscripts, produced with paper, parchment and ink from the 16th to the 20th century. Witnesses of spirituality, historical scholarship and passion for literature, they are largely survivors of the troubled events related to the suppressions and requisitions of post-unification Italy, collected by illustrious personalities of the monastery, such as Giovanni Castagna. Together with the visitors and visitors, we leaf through the cards of these silent monuments of faith and culture, including choirs, liturgical texts and poetic collections, letting ourselves be guided on a journey to discover the life of the Benedictine community of Modena. From the liturgical manuscripts, illustrated in the sixteenth-century choir of the Basilica thanks to the collaboration with Don Fabio Brancolini OSB, the journey to the unexplored library of the Monastery will touch Cesare Campori's autographs, poetic collections, lives of saints and blessed, theatrical texts and much more.
