Abstract: In philosophy of science, the topic of non-causal explanations in the natural and formal sciences has received attention in recent years (e.g., Reutlinger and Saattsi 2018, Lange 2016). This talk will focus on the nature of non-causal explanations that occur in linguistics, especially in quantitative linguistics. The talk will be based on the book Investigations of Explanatory Strategies in Linguistics.
