"Cognitive Science: Directions and Redirections" - Francis Fallon (St. John's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, NY)

Abstract: This will be a brief and incomplete tour of various projects and positions.  The emphasis will not be on defending theses, but rather upon glossing and relating them.  Beginning with new data from saccade research, we will move into the theme of meaning's influence upon perception, and entertain a re-framing of the associated debate.  This will open onto more general intellectual historical considerations, which highlight the need for a new approach to the discourse concerning representation in general.  This, in turn, will help us to interpret very recent empirical findings from the COGITATE project, which interpretation will serve to illustrate a new direction for consciousness science.
