TEXTL grew out of the activities of two previous research centres, Citelc and CeTeLC, but also out of other experiences carried out at the University of Bologna and elsewhere. Below are listed some of the events that have contributed to the development of the centre's current research lines.

Conference on paratext thirty years after Gérard Genette's seminal study

The conference was attended by scholars from the University of Bologna and by specialists from various disciplines from foreign universities, who investigated limit cases in various textual and media practices. Taking their cue from Seuils (1987) and subsequent theorising, the panelists sought to understand whether the today notion of paratext is likely to provide a new impetus to literary studies today, as it has done in the three decades since Gérard Genette's fortunate intuition.
