  On the night of 31 January 2020, the United Kingdom officially left the European Union; it marked the beginning of a new era and a “renewed independence of thought and action,” Prime Minister Boris Johnson stated in his official speech, without ever using the term Brexit.
  
  “Moby Dick” discusses the topic with its guests: journalist Antonello Guerrera, historian Giuliana Laschi, historian Piers Ludlow, and ISPI researcher Matteo Villa; with a contribution from Prof. David Reynolds, Emeritus Professor at the University of Cambridge.

  Morocco became the fourth Arab state in just four months to begin normalizing relations with Israel, following the UAE, Bahrain, and Sudan. Meanwhile, Trump announced that the United States would recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara. The Polisario Front, which has long been in conflict with Rabat over the disputed territory, also made its voice heard.
  
  We discussed this with Hesham Shawish, BBC journalist and expert on North Africa and the Middle East; Giuliana Laschi, Professor of the History of International Relations at the Faculty of Political Science, University of Bologna; and Fatima Mahfud, representative of the Polisario Front in Italy.

• Episode – EU Legal sources and the Rule of Law

  There is an open clash within the European Union: on one side stand Hungary, Poland, and Slovenia; on the other, the remaining 24 member states. Budapest, Warsaw, and Ljubljana intend to veto the EU budget and the European Recovery Fund, which are designed to support the economies of member states most affected by the pandemic. The Hungarian and Polish opposition stems from the fact that these funds are tied to respect for the rule of law—a requirement the three countries consider very restrictive. All this is unfolding in an already high-tension context, not only due to the pandemic but also because of the stalled Brexit negotiations.
