Research Fellow | The social-ethical debate on the development and impact of Open Source INTelligence (OSINT)
Riccardo Ghioni is Research fellow at the Centre for Digital Ethics (CEDE), Department of Legal Studies, University of Bologna. He graduated cum laude with an M.Sc. in Economics from the University of Bologna, defending the thesis: Time Series Forecasting with Neural Networks. Supervisor: Professor Sergio Pastorello. He obtained a B.A. in Politics and International Relations from the University of London (SOAS).
His research interests include: Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, causal inference, statistical methodology and AI auditing.
Research Fellow | The International Debate on the Use of Artificial Intelligence Systems in Public Health
Kassandra Karpathakis is a health policy professional working at the intersection of digital health, public health and the public sector. Most recently, she was Head of AI Strategy and Policy for the English NHS where she led the UK’s G7 Presidency work stream on health AI, and investigated health AI governance for the Global Digital Health Partnership.
Kassandra researches the governance and evaluation of digital and AI technologies used in healthcare and public health. She’s particularly interested in implementation of these technologies, and not overpromising their utility.
Kassandra holds a Bachelor of Science (First Class Honors) in physiology, and a double Bachelor of Science/ Bachelor of Arts in physiology, anthropology and philosophy from The University of Western Australia. She will be awarded her Masters in Public Health (Health Policy) from Harvard University in May 2022.
Postdoctoral Researcher | The Nature of Accountability in AI – Toward Responsible AI
Claudio Novelli is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Centre for Digital Ethics (CEDE), Department of Legal Studies, University of Bologna. He is a PhD candidate (waiting for defence) in ‘Law, Science and Technology’ at the Alma Mater Research Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence, University of Bologna. He is also PhD candidate in cotutelle in ‘Droit’ at the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance (FDEF), University of Luxembourg. Since 2018 subject expert in Philosophy of Law.
During his PhD he worked on the legal status of AI systems. His research interests include legal theory, AI ethics, social ontology, political theory, metaethics, and economic analysis of law.

Aina Turillazzi has obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Economics at the University of Bologna. She is an intern at the Italian Think Tank, Istituto Bruno Leoni, and a research fellow at the Center for Digital Ethics at the University of Bologna. She is also Growth Lead at AI for People, a non-profit research association that promotes the use of AI with respect for human and social needs.
Research Fellow | Social-ethical analysis of the impact of bias in the use of artificial intelligence systems
Marta Ziosi is a doctoral student at the Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford, a member of the Research Group on Digital Governance, Exeter College, University of Oxford and a research fellow at the Centre for Digital Ethics at the University of Bologna. Marta is also the co-founder and the chair of AI for People, a non-profit research association that promotes the use of AI with respect for human and social needs.
