Oral history seminar series

Seminar series organized by Toni Rovatti and Jacopo Lorenzini.

Oral history has been a relevant field in contemporary Italian historiography for several decades now, combining great methodological solidity with a rich bibliographic production. The seminar aims to outline an initial framework of oral history through the voices of the historians who have animated it in the Italian context from the 1960s-1970s to the present. A programme of six meetings with as many protagonists will be completed by two methodological seminars and a workshop (in collaboration with AISO - Associazione Italiana Storia Orale), as well as an introductory meeting held by the two promoting lecturers.

  2. Friday 21st February 2025, 1.00 - 3.00 p.m., Aula Gambi (Department of History and Cultures, Piazza San Giovanni in Monte 2) - Forms, Practices and Experiences of Oral History in Italy, with Prof. Alessandro Portelli;
  3. Thursday 6th March 2025, 3.00 - 5.00 p.m., Aula Gambi (Department of History and Cultures, Piazza San Giovanni in Monte 2) - The image in the oral history interview: what changes, with Prof. Giovanni Contini;
  4. Monday 24th March 2025, 3.00 - 5.00 p.m., Aula Fumagalli (Department of History and Cultures, Piazza San GIovanni in Monte 2) - The difficult memories of the Second World War. The role of oral history between individual memories and public narratives, with Prof. Gabriella Gribaudi;
  5. Tuesday 1st April 2025, 5.00 - 7.00 p.m., Aula Gambi (Department of History and Cultures, Piazza San GIovanni in Monte 2) - Between networks and registers. Considerations on the oral history of/in the union, with Prof. Gilda Zazzara;
  6. Tuesday 15th April 2025, 5-7 p.m., Aula Torresani (Department of History Cultures Civilisations, Piazza San GIovanni in Monte 2) - Algeria, France: for another history of the war of independence and its memories, with Prof. Andrea Brazzoduro.
