Following the successful launch of Green Tides: Resilience Conversations, the podcast series developed by the Decade Collaborative Centre for Coastal Resilience (DCC-CR), Episode 2 is now available on all major streaming platforms.
Titled Educating for Coastal Futures: Training the Scientists and Citizens of Tomorrow, the new episode explores one of the most important yet often overlooked dimensions of coastal resilience: education.
As coastal communities around the world face the growing impacts of climate change, sea-level rise, environmental degradation, and increasing ocean-related hazards, resilience depends not only on scientific knowledge and technological innovation, but also on people's ability to understand, interpret, and act upon that knowledge. Building this capacity is a long-term process that requires education, training, mentorship, and access to learning opportunities.
The episode examines how ocean literacy and capacity development contribute to strengthening resilience at multiple levels, from individual awareness and professional skills to institutional and community preparedness. Through the experiences of scientists and young professionals from different regions of the world, listeners discover how education can help transform knowledge into action.
The episode features Prof. Villy Kourafalou, Scientific Director of the DCC-CR, together with young scientists and ocean professionals who have participated in DCC-CR training and capacity development programmes.
