The latest GlobalCoast Network of Pilot Sites Survey, coordinated within the framework of the UN Ocean Decade Programme CoastPredict, has been successfully completed, marking an important milestone for the global coastal resilience community.
The survey confirms the participation of more then 180 pilot sites worldwide, representing one of the largest international networks dedicated to advancing integrated coastal observation, prediction, and decision support.
The GlobalCoast Network brings together coastal sites committed to developing, testing, and applying innovative approaches to address the challenges facing coastal regions. These pilot sites serve as real-world laboratories where scientific knowledge, operational services, digital technologies, and stakeholder engagement come together to support more resilient and sustainable coastal management.
The updated survey provides a comprehensive overview of the geographical distribution of the network and the diverse contexts in which the pilot sites operate. Together, they address a wide range of coastal challenges, including sea-level rise, coastal erosion, flooding, ecosystem degradation, marine hazards, and climate adaptation.
Beyond mapping the network, the survey represents an important step toward strengthening collaboration among pilot sites by identifying common priorities, fostering knowledge exchange, and creating new opportunities for cooperation across regions. The information collected will help support future activities within CoastPredict, facilitating the sharing of methodologies, best practices, data, and operational solutions.
The continued growth of the GlobalCoast Network reflects the increasing international commitment to developing science-based solutions for coastal resilience through collaboration and co-design. By connecting local experiences with global initiatives, the network contributes to the objectives of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, promoting the translation of scientific knowledge into actionable services for coastal communities worldwide.
With more than 180 pilot sites now participating across all continents, the GlobalCoast Network continues to strengthen its role as a global platform for innovation, collaboration, and the co-development of solutions that support more resilient coastal futures.
