The Decade Collaborative Centre for Coastal Resilience and the University of Bologna were honored to welcome Mr. François Bonet, Consul General of France in Milan, to the Ravenna Campus and the SINCEM Laboratories on 11 May 2026.
The visit provided an important opportunity to present the strategic activities carried out by the DCC-CR within the framework of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, as well as the interdisciplinary research and educational initiatives developed at the Ravenna Campus in the fields of coastal resilience, climate adaptation, marine sciences, and environmental sustainability.
During the institutional session and guided laboratory visit, researchers and academic representatives showcased advanced scientific infrastructures and ongoing projects addressing key coastal and climate challenges, including climate adaptation in the Adriatic region, ecosystem restoration, marine biodiversity, ocean digital twins, artificial intelligence for ocean and coastal modelling, and post-flood environmental assessment activities following the 2023 Emilia-Romagna extreme events.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of strengthening international scientific cooperation and fostering future Franco-Italian collaborations in research, innovation, and capacity development for resilient coastal communities.
We sincerely thank the Consul General and the representatives of the French Consulate for their visit and interest in our activities.
