DCC-CR to Lead the Development of the Coastal Resilience Solution Blueprint for the 2027 Ocean Decade Conference

The Decade Collaborative Centre for Coastal Resilience is proud to have been invited by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO to co-lead the discussion and drafting of the "Resilient Coastal Human Communities and Ecosystems" Solution Blueprint, one of the eight Ocean Decade Solutions that will guide the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development through 2030 and beyond. This appointment reflects the DCC-CR's role as a UN-endorsed Decade Action contributing to Decade Challenge 6: Increase community resilience to ocean hazards.

The process will begin with a series of online preparatory sessions engaging international experts to introduce the Blueprint framework and identify priorities. These discussions will culminate in an in-person/hybrid workshop hosted by CMCC in Milan on 26–27 October 2026, bringing together scientists, policymakers, practitioners, and other stakeholders to co-develop a shared roadmap for advancing coastal resilience worldwide.

The DCC-CR is honoured to lead this process alongside a strong consortium of partners, including the CMCC Foundation, IEEE, Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon, Deltares, CoastPredict, MEGA-DELTAS, SUPREME, and SmartNet, with the support of numerous organisations across the UN Ocean Decade network.

Following the Milan workshop, the co-leads will prepare a first draft of the Solution Blueprint, which will undergo broad community consultation before its presentation at the 2027 Ocean Decade Conference in Rio de Janeiro. Through this collaborative process, the Blueprint will provide a shared roadmap for translating ocean science into practical solutions that strengthen the resilience of coastal communities and ecosystems.
