Test

You can take the Italian Language for international students test (B3120) only if you have it on your study plan. The test will be on site in the Campus of your degree programme, there are 6 sessions per year.

Test dates - Bologna

  • 08/01/2025. Enrolment from 12/12/2024 to 03/01/2025
  • 25/02/2025. Enrolment from 07/02/2025 to 20/02/2025..

Enrolment

Access with your institutional credentials @studio.unibo.it on AlmaEsami platform and book the test for the desired session.
You can take the test only if you book it on AlmaEsami. The university badge and a valid identification document are mandatory to identify you before the test.
The specific day and time of the test within the session are automatically assigned. If you have problems during the booking phase, please email the CLA student administration office of your Campus within the booking expiring date.

Registration

If you pass the test, the result is recorded automatically on AlmaEsami within a few days from the end of the session.
No certificate will be issued.

Information for students with disabilities or specific learning difficulties (DSA)

In order to arrange tests designed for specific disabilities, students concerned should contact the Disability Support Service when enrolling for the test (on StudentiOnline).

Who can participate

Who can participate

The test is addressed to learners who:

  • have never studied Italian (level A1 in the Common European Framework of Reference)
  • attend an international programme in English that requires them to study Italian.

To check if Italian is in your study plan (B3120 Italian Language for international students), please contact the Student Office for your degree programme.

If, on the other hand, you already speak Italian, you can fulfill the requirement by completing one of the Language Centre’s Italian language courses for levels A2-C2. Enrolment is typically free of charge.

Test content

The final test is a pass / fail and it lasts 65 minutes. It is presential and computer based.

The test has 4 parts: a listening comprehension part, a reading comprehension part, a communication part, and a vocabulary and grammar part. You won’t be tested on writing or speaking.

How to prepare - Assisted Self-Study

The self-study pathway assisted by a tutor at A1-level is a made-to-measure version of the Italian online courses ICoN for the University of Bologna.

In short, the activity:

  • is reserved for those who are doing an international degree taught in English and who need to demonstrate knowledge of the Italian language
  • is online self-study assisted by a tutor
  • involves 52 hours of self-study
  • involves 24 hours of online meetings with a tutor (1 meeting per week for 12 weeks)
  • Enrolment is free of charge.
  • requires enrolment on the StudentiOnline platform (please go to the section PRENOTAZIONI)
  • permits you to sign up for just one course.

After enrolment and a couple of days after the beginning of your study path, your tutor will send you an email with instructions on how to join the first meeting online on TEAMS.

Certificates recognition

Certificates recognition

If you can demonstrate you know the Italian language with a certificate (please see the .pdf document "Italian language certificates" in the section ‘Highlights’), you only need to ask for your certificate to be recognised on StudentiOnline (please go to the section "Language exam recognition").
